The Inititatives

The strength and success of the Oregon Business Plan lies in its straightforward, action-oriented approach. Each year, the Plan lays out a set of measurable, action-oriented initiatives addressing specific issues identified as important in creating a strong and sustainable state economy.

The Regional Business Plan has been designed along the same principles. At the beginning of the planning process, the Steering Committee identified four key issue-areas that required immediate, region-wide attention. Those issue areas were:

The Steering Committee recognized that this was not an all-inclusive list. Many businesses raised concerns related to taxation and regulatory environment, issues that clearly need region-wide study. The Steering Committee, however, determined that, for the first year, initiatives would focus on the initial four areas, but in the months and years ahead, additional focus would be placed on other issues, including taxation and regulation, which critically impact economic prosperity and job development.

Task forces were appointed to look into each of these issue areas in depth, and recommend action-based initiatives. The task forces spent several months gathering data and reviewing existing programs.

At the end of 2006, the Regional Business Plan Steering Committee will report on progress made toward each of these initiatives.
