Regional Perspectives

The development of the Regional Business Plan is an ongoing, collaborative process built through the involvement and leadership of businesses throughout the region.

A key formative element in the plan has been, and will continue to be, local forums hosted by chambers of commerce and other business organizations. These forums are designed to collect the perceptions, insights, and priorities of business people in communities throughout all four counties. These contributions will provide direction and guide the development of the plan.

Each forum includes a presentation on our regional economy and its particular traded sector clusters, followed by an open discussion with attendees.

Every forum also includes an exercise to capture the attendees' perceptions of our region's performance in the "Four P's" - People, Place, Productivity, and Pioneering Innovation. Participants complete a very brief worksheet in which they rank this region in comparison to similar metropolitan regions in the United States based solely on their perceptions.

While not a scientific survey, this exercise provides insight into the perceptions of business people from throughout the region and a basis for discussing and prioritizing areas of focus within the Regional Business Plan. A compilation of these exercises can be viewed here (PowerPoint - 308KB).
